Traffic Violation in Pasig City

A week ago, I was apprehended by the blue boys of Pasig city for making an illegal U-Turn along Ortigas Avenue. It was my fault. The No U-Turn sign was there and I purposely disregarded it due to stubbornness, and the need to find a sign of relief for you know No. 2 and heavy traffic condition on the said area. The Traffic Officer was courteous enough  and it never actually entered my mind to argue with him. He even volunteered to lower my violation from the illegal U-Turn violation which has a fine of Php 1,000.00 to just D.T.S.which has a much lesser fine of Php 500.00 as I pleaded that I was not familiar with the area and that I surely will not do it again. I was never the type who'd bribe a traffic officer just to get out of the jam so I took it head on.

The violation ticket was valid for 5 working days. To me it was more than enough time to go about my business there and claim my license. Failure to do so within that period will result to an additional 5% surcharge on top of the violation fee plus I won't be able to drive anymore. So I used the power of the internet and did a lot of research but there were very few articles that was helpful thus resulting in me writing about my whole experience.

First off, According to some articles I read online. They also experienced their traffic violation being lowered from something to just D.T.S. which is a lot less grave and has a much lesser fine. I mean, A) is this really a part of their S.O.P. or B) are they just really that courteous and polite or C) is this their way of bargaining with you.

Secondly, just an F.Y.I. to all of you guys who are wondering why they confiscated my license and asking Aren't they suppose to just issue you a ticket and not take your license at all? According to him (Traffic Officer) only the M.M.D.A. does that. But if you were apprehended by the local traffic constables they are still doing that. Confiscating Licenses that is.

Third, Violation fees between the M.M.D.A. and the Local Traffic Bureaus aren't always the same. The M.M.D.A. may fine you only Php 150.00 for D.T.S but I got fined Php 500.00 by the Blue Boys of Pasig with the same offense. So don't be surprised guys. The former's fees are also available online unlike the latter.

Claiming my License wasn't a walk in the park either. Primarily because I was not familiar with the area. I have been to the Pasig Mega Market once and I only relied on Google and the very vague memory of my first visit to the area. Luckily when I saw a familiar landmark it didn't take me a lifetime to find the converted fire station in the corner of  F. Manalo and V.Baltazar St.

It was a rainy afternoon and I didn't expect the line to be that long. When I got there I was right. There was no line but there were a lot of people just like me, hoping to be done with our business there. People at the cashier are wanting to maintain order but due to the spatial restrictions  of the second floor corridor there was very little they could do. I even over heard on claimant saying "Sa laki ng perang pumapasok dito araw araw, dapat hindi ganito dito." To me he was right.

After everything has been said and done, I drove out of there thinking maybe bribing the Traffic Officer was not a bad idea after all. It could have saved me a lot of time and money and the hassle of driving all the way to Pasig just to experience all these. I don't know if this is their way for us to learn a valuable lesson which I'm not sure if it's to be very careful and never to break any traffic law or it's an implicit way of saying just bribe us the next time you get caught so you won't have to go through all these trouble again.

To me I learned my lesson the hard way. Maybe the next time I had to break any traffic law, I should make sure that the enforcers around are from the M.M.D.A. It's a lot cheaper and a lot less inconvenient. hehehe (JOKE)

Could it be just me or does it look like some of these responses

  10. Was driving thru Pasig to drop off family members. Was stopped at a traffic light that juctions Ortigas and C5. I was the fourth car in line to go through the intersection. As I observed the intersection while, while I was waiting for the light to turn green, I notice the massive number of blue suited officers that patrolled the intersection. I took count and the minimum was five.

Anyway the light turned green, and by the way I am an American with my windows rolled down, and the cars ahead of me took off and I followed suit. But as I went through the intersection, I was flagged down by one of the officers. puzzled and surprised, I pulled to the side of the road. Knowing that I had not committed any wrong.

The officers approached me and told me that I had just ran a red light. OK, all can imagine the surprised look that I had on my face and the disbelief that overwhelmed me. How in the world did I just run through a red light that was green not les that 10 seconds ago. Impossible. also if that was the case, why didn't he stop the car ahead of me because I was right behind him.

Then all came back to me. While sitting at the light, I noticed one of the officers messing with a gray looking electric box. Looks almost light a utility box for lighting. This being the case, I am thinking that that box is the box that control the lighting because that is the only way that light could have changed so fast.

Let me remind you that I was only the fourth car passing through that intersection. American with windows rolled down so I am guessing that they seen me as well as I seen them.

Go figure. Everyone of the five adults in the car with me also seen a green light. Hadf to make sure that I wasn't seeing wrong or going crazy..Go figure..

  13. Hey, this blog you made helped me a lot today, my friend just got his license confiscated by the blue boys at de castro pasig; when i called my friend I was even mad that he gave his license and was saying the penalty was 2K. With details you wrote above it gave me a picture on how to help him, corrected my thinking as MMDA penalty is different from the local government, where the hell do we get his license and what the real amount should we expect:> Thanks a lot!!!

    1. same with my case. Ano kaya ang basehan nila bakit ganon kalaki ang fine with the same violation. tsk tsk! -_-

  15. damn! i was following a very tall van and the driver already violated the traffic light! i can't see the light ahead. i wasn't excused and i have to suffer paying 500 fine and salary deductions for being late! Shhhh** !!!!! my reward was "driving over yellow box (lane)"... was it my fault? when the van i was following at was still moving? isn't it the blue boys' fault when they were not around to warn at least considering the tall van ahead? i started to doubt (@american guy) that someone's messing up with the box.
    can i "contest" it?
anyone can suggest the pros and cons of "contest"ing a un-intentioned traffic violation? procedures? fees? troubles? i can imagine it's a whole day process if not more than a day!

  17. I just got pulled over for making a left turn after leaving Commonwealth Commons. It's a fairly new street so if you drive through there to see the new condos, Starbucks, or whatever. When leaving, be careful not to make a left onto Capt. Henry P. Javier because there will be one of the homeys in blue waiting for you. Gotta go pick up my license also. RGGHHHH!!

  18. Beware in PASIG brgy Caniogan... intersection of Mercedes Ave. and C. Raymundo Ave. just in front of Pasig City RED ( Rescue, Emergency, Disaster) Training Center.
Along C.Raymundo Ave. coming from Pasig Rotonda. there is a one yellow line, just before the pedestrain lane. If you pass that yellow line and stop just before entering the yellow box on a red stoplight. You've violated DTS. If you are new to that route, you will notice that one yellow line a few meters from the yellow box. That yellow line is not visible when you are concentrating on the stop light and yellow box. I was a victim yesterday morning. But passing that route yesterday afternoon, I've seen cars stopped on that spot but was not apprehended. Unfair! They sure know how to earn money.

  19. Beware of Capitol Commons. There is a new street (Camino Verde Rd.) that runs from Shaw Blvd. through Capitol Commons and goes down to Capt. Henry P. Javier St. that puts you directly in front of ULTRA/Philsports Complex. There is a tiny sign saying no left turn but if there is a lot of cars backed up you will probably not see it which was my case. There is definitely one of the homey's in blue waiting for you to make a left turn and when you do...BOOM..he's got your license and the fine in Pasig is 2000p for a left turn. Good luck finding the office to pay the fine. It's like going into hell. Total bullshit!

If you did decide to bribe him, you just paid for his adobo and rice, 2 muchos of Red Horse, and a bottle of Emperador Light. Don't forget the coins for the karaoke machine.
What you probably don't realize is that your bribe just gave him motivation to keep fucking people over so he can sing and drink again tomorrow night so thanks a lot!

I hate those fuckers and they are getting worse especially during Xmas season. The next time one of those assholes pull you over, pay attention to all the blackheads on his face from standing out in polluted street air day in and day out. Give him a bottle of Eskinol or Clearasil after he takes your license. Fuckin pricks.

Someone needs to explain to these jackasses who run Pasig traffic enforcement that there's a distinct difference between enforcing traffic safety and blatant entrapment to fatten these corrupt, fat politicians' greedy pockets. Wake up Pasig! Go after these dickhead taxi drivers who intentionally take up both lanes and don't turn their meters as well as these dumb ass jeepney drivers who make the most ridiculous turns to the right side of the road from the center lane without even looking and cause more traffic jams and bottlenecks than anything else in this country. Better yet, when one of those fuckers in blue try to flag you down, just HIT THE GAS! Even better, convince those merienda-eating Candy Crush playing fuckers in City Hall to MODERNIZE and get a REAL public transit system instead of the Jeepney dumb shit that pollutes the entire city and people don't have to sweat their asses off while commuting back and forth to work.

I suggest creating a petition at change.org and sending it to one of the few senators and government agencies that are not corrupt in this country (good luck with that) and fight against these fools.
